William J. Pringle

Delmar-William J. Pringle, born August 10, 1927, in Albany, NY, passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2015, after a long illness. He was the son of the late William and Charlotte Conklin Pringle. He attended Vincentian Institute from an early age graduating in 1945 then enlisting in the U.S. Navy. After discharge, he attended and graduated from Siena College. He was recalled to active duty in the Korean War and served proudly aboard the battleship USS New Jersey in the Pacific. After service he returned to Albany and began a long career in state service in Personnel in the Education Department and as an Administrative Assistant to Deputy Commissioner Adrian Levy in Vocational Rehabilitation. Bill had a long history of church and parish involvement. He started as an altar boy at St. Vincent de Paul’s Church and served in several other capacities there and later at St. Thomas Church in Delmar. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Monarch Club, and the University Club where he served on the Board. Volunteer work as an ambassador at the Albany Airport gave him much joy. He was meeting and helping people once again. He had many friends from school days at V.I. and never forgot them. He was a fan of Notre Dame football, Siena Saints basketball, and the Boston Red Sox, and would spend hours talking to anyone who enjoyed them too. And he never forgot his Navy friends, attending several reunions. The family is grateful for all the help he received through these last years from his aides: Destiny, Donna, Dixie, Cathy, Tarsha, and Blanca. The Bethlehem Rescue Squad was also invaluable whenever Bill needed their help. Neighbors at Woodgate, his condo development, will be remembered for their kindness during Bill’s long illness. Our thanks are extended to the Sheehan, Halloran, and Kennedy families for their kindness and support to Bill over the years, especially during his illness. They, along with Jack Meany, Joe McCormick and family, Bob and Chris Wurster, Chuck Byrne and the men from the State Ed Wednesday lunch group, St. Thomas friends from daily mass, Sisters of the Holy Names, Father Frank O’Connor, Father Tom Hayes, Sister Judith, Luke Mullen, Joan and Jim Tschinkel, and Donna Spellman were great friends to Bill. Bill is survived by his sister, Charlotte Anderson, and his niece, Beth Anderson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 1, at St. Thomas Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar, at 11 am followed by burial at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
