Thelma J. Dooley

Albany-Thelma Jane Mulligan Dooley died on Sunday, February 22, 2015. A native and lifelong resident of Albany, Thelma graduated from St. Teresa’s School and Cathedral Academy. She was employed by the New York State Legislature and was Executive Secretary to Mayor Erastus Corning, 2nd, Mayor Thomas M. Whalen, III and Mayor Gerald D. Jennings. She was a member of AARP, Democratic Women of the Legislature, Women’s Democratic Club of Albany County and the Senior Services Center in Albany. She was the wife of the late Russell M. Dooley, mother of William T. and his wife, Christine of Schenectady, Edward R. and his wife Karen of Latham, and Charles M. and his wife Sheril of Wynantskill. She has one granddaughter, Nicole Marie Dooley and Fiancé Joseph Audino, one step-granddaughter, Anna Wilkinson and husband Michael and one step-grandson David Verleger and his wife Susie. She was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Mary M. Mulligan, Sr. She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth R. Frezon of Rensselaer, four brothers and three sisters who predeceased her were Thomas E. Mulligan, Jr, John J. Mulligan, George G. Mulligan, James E. Mulligan, Audrey M. Gorman, Jeanne Mary Smith and Eileen R. Domery. Aunt Tim is also survived by several nieces and nephews. For many years Thelma enjoyed chair-caning and ceramics and the people who shared those hobbies with her. She also liked playing bridge, feeding the birds and gardening. Funeral services Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 10:00 am from the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany thence to the Parish of Mater Christi, Albany at 10:30 am where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday, February 25, 2015 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Interment Memory’s Garden Cemetery.
