Shirley Jean Sheridan

Loudonville-Shirley Jean Sheridan, 76, of Loudonville formerly of The Villages Florida, died peacefully on December 4, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 4, 1937 in Oak Hill, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Lorine McOsker. Shirley was a graduate of Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital School of Nursing in Manhattan, and later earned her BS in Nursing from St. Joseph’s College in Maine. Her rewarding nursing career ranged from bedside nursing at Misericordia Hospital in the Bronx, to Director of Nursing at Rosewood Gardens in Albany. She later spent 11 years as Director of Provider Relations at Computer Science Corporation in Albany, NY Shirley was very active and a tremendous athlete. A competitive tennis enthusiast, she played in several leagues in the Capital Region and Florida for more than 40 years. Shirley enjoyed her later years in The Villages, Florida, sharing happy times with her sister Joyce nearby. Her life in The Villages was filled with activity, which included tennis, pickle-ball, belly dancing and tap dancing. Always an avid traveler, in recent years she went on an African safari and took trips to Japan and China. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, John J. Sheridan in 2008. Shirley was recently predeceased by her son Kevin D. Sheridan. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Rissberger (Thomas) of Loudonville, NY; her daughter-in-law Dodee Sheridan (Kevin) of Clifton Park, her granddaughters Caitlin, Courtney and Carly Sheridan and great granddaughter Elizabeth, all of Clifton Park, NY; her sister Joyce Doig of The Villages, Florida and her brother Dewayne McOsker (Mary) of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews survive. Funeral services Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 9:00 am from the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany and at 10:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church, 1500 Western Ave., Guilderland, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday, December 6, 2013 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
