Roy "Boomer" Anson

West Albany-Roy “Boomer” Anson of West Albany, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010 from complications of a brief illness, he was 52. Born in Albany on May 5, 1958, and the son of the late Gerald and Frances Anson. Boomer was a graduate of Colonie Central High School and was employed at the South Colonie Central School District as a bus driver where he loved driving the kids; he also worked at Mobile Air Transport and enjoyed driving the bus for the kids at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament. He spent his summers working in Saratoga at the Track. He was a life member of the West Albany Fire Department #1, where he has been president for the past 15 years. Additionally, he was a Commissioner of the West Albany Fire District and a member of the Albany County Volunteer Fireman’s Association, the Hudson Mohawk Volunteer Fireman’s Association, as well as a Social member of the Elsmere Fire Co. Boomer had a tremendous sense of humor a special love of animals especially his lap cats. He enjoyed the hobbies of bird watching and coin collecting. Boomer also enjoyed the NASCAR trips to Dover with Elsmere FD, the Green Bay Packers and was a true NY Yankee fan. He is survived by his son Derek and daughter Melissa, as well as his significant other, Sharon Leisenfelder and her children, Cheri, Cara and Eddie; his brothers Gerald (Carol) of Atlanta, GA, Joseph (Jody) of Rexford, George (Pam) of SC, and Michael (Sue) of Colonie; several nieces, nephews and cousins survive. He held a special place in his heart for the ones who called him “Poppy” Ciera, Cole and Rylee. Funeral services with will be Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 9:45 am from the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany thence to Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany at 10:30 am where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday, June 9, 2010 4:00 to 8:00pm in the funeral home. After Mass, services will continue at Memory’s Garden Cemetery.
