Richard H. Signor

Richard H. Signor, 66, entered into Eternal life on Thursday August 4, 2022, with his loving family by his side. Born and raised in Albany, he was the son of Dorothy and Robert Signor. He was one of nine children. Richard (Rick) was a registered nurse at St. Peter’s Hospital who spent his life caring for others. He was married to Debra (Keegan), also a nurse, who wouldn’t leave Rick’s side and tirelessly cared for him, along with Karl and Eric, during his final weeks. Rick and Debra were married for over 30 years. Rick was a whirlwind of energy who lived life to the fullest. He played sports growing up, including baseball, basketball and tennis, and later took up rollerblading, skiing and biking. He and Deb spent quality time skiing and biking together over the years. On family trips to Thatcher Park, it was commonplace to see Rick riding his bike there and back often zipping by cars on New Scotland Avenue. He was an avid reader and music fan who compiled an album collection that would rival anyone. From Lou Reed to Eric Clapton to Jesus Christ Superstar. During his final days, Rick listened to music and it raised his spirits. One of his favorite songs was “My Sweet Lord.” The joys of his life were his sons Karl and Eric. Watching Karl and Eric play baseball and basketball was something that brought great pride and joy to Rick. He also enjoyed walking his husky Bandit every morning. Rick looked forward to the annual family vacation on LBI where his family was joined by as many as 50 other attendees including his brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He biked up and down the island many times on those vacations. It’s those memories that will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends. Rick will join his mother (Dorothy), father (Robert), and his beloved sister Sharon in heaven. The loss of Rick, only months after the loss of his mother, is devastating to the Signor family and friends. But knowing that Rick is joining his parents and Sharon eases our pain. Rick is survived by his loving wife Debra and sons Karl and Eric. He is also survived by his siblings: Robert (Bernadette) Signor; Linda Michalak; Michael (Victoria) Signor; Donna (Greg) Signor; John (Kelly Lazzaro) Signor; Thomas (Kristin) Signor; Dorothy (Matt) LaClair; and brother-in-law J. Peter Purcell, as well as longtime friends Randy Goldberg and Jim Lyons. In addition, he is survived by his many loving nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. Anyone who knew Rick knows that he would not want anyone to mourn his death, but instead to celebrate his life. A life lived on his terms. The family would like to thank St. Peter’s Hospital for their compassionate care of Rick during his time of illness. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family on Wednesday August 10, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206.
