Maureen Conboy

Albany, NY-Maureen Conboy passed away on May 21st surrounded by her loving siblings. Maureen was born in Albany NY on April 13th, 1965. She is predeceased by her parents James Conboy and Jeanne Vaill Conboy. Maureen was born with Down syndrome, a condition that enhanced the love, joy and laughter she brought to our family and all who encountered her. She attended school at Cobb Memorial in Altamont NY. In her early twenties she became a resident of Living Resources. She attended and enjoyed Dayhab at WWARC 5 days a week. Maureen was sassy, fun and kind. Years ago when visiting her grandmother with her mother they found Grandma on the floor unable to communicate or get up. Mom told Maureen to stay with Grandma while she called for help. Maureen took her grandmothers hand and said “don’t worry Grandma you’ll be ok.” She loved to sing, dance and paint. In her youth she bowled and participated in the Special Olympics. Our mother would often say she was the most talented person in the family. She would sing along with Whitney Houston in the car, sing and sign Silent Night at Christmas Mass and watch WWE wrestling. Maureen loved her mom and dad and she loved family parties (especially the shrimp cocktail). She loved dancing at family weddings and bringing up the gifts at Mass. Maureen’s expressions are legendary “Are you teasing me”, “I did it!” or a very firm “NO” To paraphrase Maureen’s good friend Cindy, “People give me credit for helping Maureen but the joy Maureen gives me is so much more”. Maureen is survived by her loving siblings. Kathleen Schreck (Peter) of Harwich Port, MA. Karen Appe (Stephen) of Harwich Port, MA. James Conboy of Albany, Jeanne Bender (Patrick) of Albany .Maureen is also survived by nine nieces and nephews, Meghan Schreck (Jeffrey Winer), Bridget Olsen (Erik), Peter Schreck (Gabriela Milla), Brendan Appe (Abi Martin), Brooke Fleming (Peter), Kate Purnomo (Dominick), Claire Bender, Brady Conboy and Dylan Conboy; and 10 great nieces and nephews, Lucy, Hazel, Henrik, Ingrid, Peter Rafael, Calum , Rory, Gemma, Halle and Blair. We would like to thank Living Resources, particularly the staff at Oregon Ave, WWARC, particularly Vanessa and Ginny, Maureen’s friend Cindy, and the nurses and doctors at Ellis Hospital. Funeral services Friday May 29, 2026 at 12:30 pm at St Pius X Church, Loudonville, NY where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford, NY immediately following the Mass.
