Matthew C. Neeson

Albany -Matthew C. Neeson, 77, of Albany, NY passed away surrounded by his loving family on Nov. 14, 2021. He was born in Manhattan, NY. Son of the late Thomas J. Neeson, retired battalion chief of the FDNY and the late Mary A.Cahill Neeson. He was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the US Army. Enlisting in 1964, he served in Germany and then in the Vietnam War from May 1966 through May 1967. After serving his county, he continued his love of service and joined the New York State Police, retiring in 1987. Along with his family, his greatest passion in life was his love and respect for law enforcement, veterans and patriotism for his country. He made sure to instill those values in his children and grandchildren. Matt enjoyed talking to everyone, at length. Above all Matt loved time spent with his family. He loved taking pictures, attending events of both his kids and grandkids, talking on the phone and sitting around the dinner table listening and telling stories. He was a proud family man. Married to the love of his life Terry for 55 years. He was the cherished father to Michael Neeson , Christine (Daniel) Giglio, Rob (Ann) Neeson and grandfather to Sean and Tim Neeson, Allie and Lauren Giglio and Thomas, Matthew and Bridget Neeson. He will be greatly missed by his siblings Frank (Maureen) Neeson, Helen Mooney, Ceil Emanuel and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Matt is preceded by his sisters Josephine and Marie, brothers Thomas, Vincent, Joseph and Peter Neeson. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Matt’s family Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services Friday, November 19, 2021 at 9:00 am a the Parish of Mater Christi, Albany, NY where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Unvaccinated individuals must wear a mask and practice social distancing. Following the Funeral Mass the Rite of Committal is scheduled for 11:30 am, along with military honors, at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
