Maria "Mary" T. Lombardo

Albany-Lombardo, Maria “Mary” age 86, of Albany NY, was born into eternal life on January 31, 2021, in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Albany, New York, she was the daughter of the late Emilio and Teresa (Buscaglia) Ranghino and sister of the late Joseph P. Ranghino (Eva Cassinis). Mary attended St. Ann’s Elementary and graduated Holy Cross High School in 1950. Mary worked for New York State as a Key Punch Operator. In 1961 she married Antonino Lombardo. Shortly thereafter retired from New York State to raise her family. In 1969, Mary and Peppino became proud business owners of Lombardo’s Grocery. Through their hard work and dedication they expanded their business to include Lombardo’s Wine and Liquor, and Automotive Center. True pillars to the New Scotland and Dana Avenue community. Known to her close friends as “Mary” and the local business community as “Mrs. L.” She was a devote Catholic who enjoyed watching the daily mass on EWTN. Being a lifelong Albany resident, she took pride in her south end roots and enjoyed talking about her old stomping ground. Her many interest included jigsaw puzzles, word finds, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Dancing with the Stars, The Masked Singer, Family Feud, crocheting, and her many trips to Italy and Florida. Though she was small in stature, it could not take away from the amount of love and support she gave to her friends, family and acquaintances. She welcomed anyone and everyone with grace and acceptance. A true angel in human form. If you knew her, you felt her compassion, love and positivity. When you think of Mary, you think of strength, perseverance, kindness and honesty. She wasn’t just “mom” to her six children, but also to the friends that became family. Truly the light of her life was spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To her grandchildren she was great source of knowledge, their biggest fan and always had an encouraging word. Devoted wife of the late Antonino “Peppino” Lombardo, beloved mother of Teresa Lombardo of New Port Richey, Fl., Maria Nadoraski of Cohoes, Lawrence Lombardo (Rebecca) of Clifton Park, Anthony Lombardo of Halfmoon, Tindara DiNovo (Peter) of Trinity, Fl. and Ann Berrington (Robert) of Ballston Lake. Cherished Nanna to Christopher Bardin and Evamarie Horner; Michael, Nicholas (Kelly), Joseph, and Jacob Nadoraski; Kristin and Charles Skinkle, Julianna, Victoria, Isabella, and Lorenzo Lombardo; Jacqualine and Anthony (Martika) Lombardo; Peter and Avarie DiNovo, Mariah and Dayne Raynor and Selena DiNovo; and Daniella Bertrand, Thomas (Sarah) Berrington, and Oliva Berrington. Mary was also the doting and loving great-grandmother to Stephen Bardin, Brody and Luca Skinkle, June Nadoraski, and Autumn and Deklan Berrington. Loving Aunt Angela and Alfredo Leonardi and great-nephew to Andrea. She is also survived by sister-in-law Rosetta Lombardo of Giarre, Sicily and Rita Lombardo DeStefano (Salvatore) of Gardini Noxos, Sicily, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews, cousins, and close friends. Maria was a Matriarch to her family. Her legacy will live on through the lives of each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To know her was to love her. To love her was to be loved by her. To be loved by her was a blessing from God. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Maria’s family Friday, February 5, 2021 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Please only enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot doorway; masks and social distancing are required; and 35 visitors at a time will be allowed in the funeral home. Funeral services Saturday at 9:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Delaware Ave. Worship Site where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Masks are required and social distancing is observed. The Rite of Committal will be held at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Mass.
