Joanne E. Picard

Slingerlands, NY-Joanne E. Tucker Picard, 84, went to sleep and woke up in the arms of the Lord on September 4, 2026. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of William J. and Elizabeth “Betty” Tucker. Joanne was a graduate of St. Rose College and Cardinal McCloskey High School. She studied music education and became a teacher, but entered her true calling as a guidance counselor in the following years. She returned to McCloskey (Bishop Maginn) and remained there for over forty years. She loved her students and made it her life’s work to make sure they knew it; her kindness, knowledge, and solid advice helped thousands of young people through the years. As much as Joanne loved her work, her family was her life. Joanne was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Arthur J. Picard, who passed in 2019, and her dear daughter, Jacqueline E. Palladino (Al), who passed in 2024. She was the loving mother of Arthur W. Picard (Erin Lasky); cherished grandmother of Jillian Neville (Ryan), Daniel Palladino, Alexandra Picard, and Matthew Picard; dear sister-in-law of Joan Driggs and Janice House (Stanley) and the late Lorraine Abbatantuono (Pat) and Charles L. Picard (Patricia). Joanne was an avid reader and lover of music. She followed the news and her beloved Notre Dame football closely. Joanne loved dogs and had several over the years. She especially enjoyed dogsitting her “granddogs” later in life. She was also a great communicator and kept up with her friends and neighbors, old and new. The best memories are of family gatherings at home or on vacation in Cape Cod. Joanne loved having her “grands” all together. Even though she loved to be in her home, she had a spirit of adventure; in April she traveled to Ireland, a life-long dream. The most profound gift Joanne leaves behind is the deep, enduring influence she had on those she loved. She enveloped her family and friends in an embrace of warmth and love, frequently providing a thoughtful word or a steady hand of support whenever it was required. Her spirit of giving, her enormous heart, and her limitless devotion will be cherished forever by all who knew her. While Joanne will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort knowing that she is reunited with Art and Jackie in the arms of our Lord. Funeral services Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 8:15 am at McVeigh Funeral Home, Albany then to St. Pius X Church, Loudonville, NY at 9:00 am where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Mass.
