Joan V. Delehanty

Albany, NY – Joan V. Delehanty, 81, passed away peacefully the morning of March 15, 2026. She was born in Niskayuna, N.Y. She was predeceased by her husband Richard E. Delehanty in 2023, and her parents Theresa Urgento and Chester Jones. She was a graduate of Mercy High School and a lifetime resident of Albany, N.Y. In addition to caring for her family, Mrs. Delehanty was a crossing guard for the City of Albany for many years. Afterwards, she had a thriving business as an AVON representative. She married Richard Delehanty, May 2, 1970, at Vincentian Institute Grotto in Albany. Mr. and Mrs. Delehanty have been longtime members of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Albany where Joan enthusiastically volunteered for several ministries in the church and at the elementary school. She has always been focused on caring for others in the community, lending a helping hand to anyone in need. Mrs. Delehanty also volunteered for organizations such as the Girl Scouts and the Colonie Silver Streakers. Mrs. Delehanty is survived by her daughter, Kim Gibson, son-in-law, Brent, and her beloved grandson, Luke, of Albany; her sister Jean Allen and her husband George of Sand Lake; and her two brothers, James Jones and his wife Diane of Liberty, S.C. , and John Jones and his wife Susanna of New Boston, N.H.; her nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Joan also leaves behind many dear friends who she has met over the years through work, church groups, camping clubs, Towers of Colonie and Ohav Shalom Apartments. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Joan’s family Thursday, March 19, 2026 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Her Funeral Service will follow at 1:30 pm. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. The Rite of Committal will be held at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery immediately following the Service.
