Jerre D. Chilton

Jerre Donald Chilton, 80, of Amsterdam, New York, passed away on Friday, September 4th, 2026, at the Samuel S. Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, New York. Jerre was born on September 1, 1946, to Donald and Virginia Chilton in Gouverneur, New York, where he grew up alongside his six siblings. He attended SUNY Delhi and served four years in the United States Air Force. He spent the next 30 years in Schenectady, working in finance and raising his children with endless patience, enthusiasm, and love. For the last 25-plus years, Jerre made his home in Amsterdam NY with his loving partner, Carol White. Jerre found joy in the simple things and rarely seemed to run out of projects, hobbies, or something new to take on. He enjoyed traveling, volunteering, spending time with family and friends, and being involved in his community. The Inman Senior Center became an important part of his life, where he served on the Board of Directors, loved calling Bingo and formed many friendships. He was a familiar and much-loved presence. Above all, Jerre loved his family. He was a steady source of strength and encouragement. His humor, patience and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on the people who knew and loved him. He is survived by his partner Carol, her daughters Leslie and Andrea (who loved him as their father), his children, Kimberly (James), Jeff (Pam), Korey, and Josh. He was “Grampy” to his cherished grandchildren, Maxwell, Austin (Rachael), Quinten (Amy), Miko, Valentino, and Riordan “RJ”, and his great-grandchildren, Viviana and Vincenzo. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Donna, Bernie (Valerie), Judy (Marty), Pam, Dean, and Cindy, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bill. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and offer condolences on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Inman Center, 53 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam NY. Jerre will be laid to rest in a private service at the Gerald B. H.
