James G. Brennan

Loudonville, NY-James G. Brennan, 100, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albany, James was the son of James G. and Mary Lourdes (nee Lynch) Brennan. James was a graduate of Vincentian Institute and, following service in the United States Navy during World War II, Fordham University and Albany Law School. James practiced law for 62 years and was a partner in the Albany law firm of Cooper, Erving & Savage LLP where he was respected by his colleagues and clients for his depth of knowledge and attention to detail in the areas of estate planning and trusts and estates. James was predeceased by his loving wife Mary (nee Ryan) Brennan, son Michael James Brennan and granddaughter Cassidy Mary Brennan. He is survived by his son Frank, daughter-in-law Stephanie, and grandsons Ryan and Christian Brennan. An only child, James was “adopted” by Mary’s large, extended Nolan and Ryan families and he took great pride in learning the names of all of Mary’s numerous cousins and how they were related to each other. James greatly cherished his time with Stephanie’s parents, Fred and Sandra Farrell and the extended Farrell and Gower families as well. James was an avid fan of Siena University Basketball (except when they played Fordham), a habit he picked up from his wife who was a proud Siena alumna. James took great pride in his grandsons’ accomplishments and was a steady presence at, and supporter of, their educational and sporting endeavors. Despite his age, James never lost his intellect or recall of law or history and would recount to his family memories from long ago, including attending the 1936 World Series with his father and New York Giants baseball games at the Polo Grounds during his time at Fordham over eighty years ago. In his later years, he greatly enjoyed annual summer trips to Goose Rocks Beach, Maine with his family. James was a lifetime member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus (Council 173) and a faithful parishioner of St. Pius X Church in Loudonville for over 60 years. He took great solace in his faith, which he celebrated in times of joy and sought comfort from in times of struggle. The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Loudonville Assisted Living Residence, where he resided for the past five years, for the care and attention he received while there. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mr. Brennan’s family Monday, August 3, 2026 9:30 am to 11:00 am in the Chapel at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville, NY 12211. His Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am in the main church. The Rite of Committal will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Mass.
