Elena "Nuccia" Giglio

Albany, NY-Elena “Nuccia” Giglio, 73, entered Eternal Life Thursday, October 16, 2025 at St. Peter’s Hospital. Born in Siderno, R.C. Italy she was the beloved daughter of Antonio and Maria Macchina Cherubino. After immigrating to the USA in 1965, Elena graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School. She went on to work in her uncle’s bakery, Carosello Bakery. Elena was the owner and operator for over 30 years of Albany’s legendary Elena’s Italian Caffe, where she enjoyed many chats with customers and was known for her sub making skills. Elena enjoyed traveling, the beach, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy every night, and most of all cooking for family and friends. Elena’s meatballs and lasagna were more than just food…they were unique, and an act of generosity and passion shared with those she loved. She was the wife of the late Giacomo Giglio; beloved mother of Daniel Giglio (Christine), Giacomo Giglio Jr, and Teresa Giglio; cherished grandmother of Richard, Alessandra and Lauren Giglio; dear sister of Rosanna Bongiorno (Felice), Roberto Caricari (Christine), and the late Carlo Cherubino; sister-in-law of Maria Teresa Futia (Tony), Isabella Giglio (Pino), and Nancy Futia (Aldo); aunt of Sabrina Mason (Greg), Adriano Bongiorno (Vanessa), Antonio Caricari, Agostino Futia, Rosanna Futia, Aurelia Futia, Tony Giglio, Maryrose Blossom (Dan), Joey Giglio (Marissa), Lisa Futia, and Nino Futia; many grandnieces and grandnephews survive. Relatives and friend are invited to visit with Elena’s family Tuesday, October 21, 2025 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Funeral services Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at 9:00 am from McVeigh Funeral Home, thence to St. Francis of Assisi, Delaware Ave., Albany at 10:00 am where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
