Charles F. "Chuck" Oliver

Albany – Charles F. “Chuck” Oliver, 85, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Raymond S. and Johanna Corbet Oliver. Charles attended Blessed Sacrament School and Church, where he sang in the choir, and later graduated from Vincentian Institute in 1956. He served in the Army National Guard for 6 years while being employed by Niagara Mohawk for 38 years. He was an avid golfer, bowler, NY Yankees fan, and bird watcher. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in 1996 by his wife of 34 years, Martha Schmidbauer Oliver, and his siblings Marion Kirby, Raymond S. Oliver, Jr., James Oliver, and Leanora Oliver. Chuck is survived by his wife Joanne Oliver; his children, Michele (Douglas) Deforge, Chuck (Kristina) Oliver, Christine Oliver, Debbie (Michael) Cole, and Diana (Ian) Foster; his grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, and Jacob Marks, Nathan and Grace Oliver, Tess and Michael Urschel, Kate and Jeffrey Cole, Ethan and Liam Foster, Jennifer (Brian) Buchanan, and Evan Deforge; and his siblings, Joan Walsh, and John Oliver. The family would like to thank the staff of Albany Medical Center Hospital C4 Unit for their kindness and compassion in his final days, “Dr. A” and the staff of NYOH for taking such good care of him, laughing at his jokes, and taking an interest in his weekly “magic number”, and the staff of Shaker Place Ann Lee Unit. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Chuck’s family on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. All are welcome to attend his Funeral Mass on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 10:00 am at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville, NY 12211. The Rite of Committal will immediately follow the Mass at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
