Alfred D. Russo

Albany-Alfred D. Russo peacefully led into Heaven by his Guardian Angel Wednesday, March 30, 2016. He is with our Savior, Jesus Christ and after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, “he is free.” He gave up the fight with his family by his side. Born August 30, 1942 to Alfred F. Russo and Anna Mae Fink Russo. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Dawn of 55 years, his children Michele Picard (Bob), Michael Russo (Dom Franzo), Lynn McCarthy (Richard); grandchildren Jason Picard, Crystal Sill (Justin), Megan Picard; great grandchildren Dyani and Rocco Picard; his brother Richard Russo (Donna); special sister in law Joann Boomhower (William); and nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Al’s contributions to this world were many. Al welcomed everyone with a warmth that made you feel special. He spent his early years working with his dad in their family grocery store. He worked 24 years on the Albany Police Department, many of those years in the Community Relations Unit. Al retired in 1993 and was a hall monitor in Hackett Middle School. He was also a volunteer at St. Peter’s Hospital as an ambassador. Many thanks to all who have been there for Al and his family, especially his caregivers Laura, Carlos, Loretta and Doris. All of the Hospice staff, Al’s grandson Jason who took special care of his beloved ‘Pa’. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with Al’s family Friday, April 1, 2016 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany. Funeral services Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 8:15 am from the McVeigh Funeral Home, Albany thence to Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany at 9:00 m where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Interment will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery Mausoleum immediately following the Mass. Those wishing to remember Al in a special way may send a contribution to Michael J.
