Agnes Virginia Conroy

Albany-Agnes Virginia Conroy, born June 6, 1913 died peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. Agnes used to say, “She was leaving for heaven to be with her family and friends.” Waiting for her is her father Joseph Burns and her mother Mary Hans Burns, along with 10 of her 14 siblings. Agnes was predeceased by her husband Edward J. Conroy. She leaves behind two sons, Edward J. Conroy (Denise) of Voorheesville and Joseph M. Conroy (Deborah) of Delmar, along with four grandchildren, Edward J. Conroy, Mackenzie Conroy, Joseph E. Conroy and Andrew A. Conroy. Agnes also leaves behind four siblings, Gerry Lemley, Rosemary Reddick, Dan Burns and Sister Jean Albert (Delores). Agnes was born in the south end of Albany and lived in the state Capital her entire life. Her first job was at the Hermanus Bleecker Library, where she acquired her love of reading. She also worked at the Watervliet Arsenal during World War II. Agnes later went to work for the State of New York and retired from the Student Loan unit. In 1948 Agnes started her family and spent every moment caring for her two sons. She was a dedicated mother to her boys and then when they had children, she became a dedicated and caring grandmother. In her later years Agnes managed to travel throughout the United States and toured Europe with her family and friends. She was always on the go! Agnes loved to travel, swim, read, do crosswords and was an avid walker. She loved everything about life and never complained. Agnes leaves behind many nieces and nephews who she will never forget. She will also be missed by her neighbors on Roosevelt Street, where she resided for 50 plus years. Ed and Joe Conroy would like to thank the caring staff at the Guilderland Center Nursing Home for looking after Agnes and we would like to express our gratitude to her three surviving sisters for being there for her.
