Thelma I. Fedele
August 23, 1931 - November 20, 2018
Albany - Thelma I. Fedele, age 87, passed away peacefully on November 20,2018, at St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation surrounded by her loving family. Born August 23, 1931 in Stephentown, she was the daughter of the late George and Grace Stallone Shuhart. She was raised in the East Greenbush-Rensselaer area. Thelma was married to her husband Mario J. Fedele from 1949 until his passing on August 9, 2017. In 1962, they moved to Colonie. She worked at husband Mario’s business, Fedele’s Market on Central Avenue, where her homemade salads were something everyone looked forward to during the summer months. Thelma was widely known and loved for her kind-hearted nature and willingness to listen and to provide love and support to everyone. She has always taking care of anyone who needed a hand - everyone knew they could “call Thelma” and she'd be there. Her greatest joy was cooking, and in addition to her delicious meals, she also enjoyed making many loaves of Easter bread every year and giving them to family and friends. She also took great pride in her Italian cookies and designing cookie trays for the special people in her life. Thelma loved to travel and especially enjoyed her many visits to Hawaii, as well as her trips to Italy and Japan. She is survived by her daughters, who she always affectionately referred to as "My Girls", Mary Carmody of Colonie and Marie “Tina” (Larry) Holford of Colonie. She is predeceased by her husband Mario J. Fedele, as well as her sons, Mark Fedele and infant son John Joseph Fedele; mother-in-law of the late Nancy Adalian Fedele. She was the sister of Dolores (Louis) D'Ambrosi of Rensselaer, and Paul (Cathy) Shuhart of East Nassau and the late George A. Shuhart Jr. and Catherine Mabeus; sister-in-law, Salvatore (Rosemary) Fedele, Jennie Fedele, Helen Fedele and Beverly Shuhart. Predeceased by sister-in-law Joan Shuhart; brother-in-law Robert Mabeus; sister-in-law Lucy Mosser; brothers-in-law Rocco, Anthony (Carmella), Peter and Joseph Fedele. She was the proud Grandmother of Kimber-Lee (David) LaVenture and Tanner (Suzanne) Holford of Colonie, Michael (Alicia) Carmody of Weaverville, NC and Jacqueline (John) Rosati of Asheville, NC; “GG” cherished great-grandmother of Rhiannon Rose and Alexander LaVenture, Harrison Holford, TJ and Quinn Carmody and Dominic Rosati. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank the entire staff at St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for all their kindness and compassion and Table 9 for all the entertaining conversation. Thelma loved her new friends at SPNRC as much as she loved her old friends. A special thanks to Bob Treffiletti, a lifelong friend of the family, who always referred to her as his "second mother". Relative and friends are invited to visit with Thelma’s family on Monday morning, November 26, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Reverend Anthony Chiaramonte. The Rite of Committal will immediately follow the Mass in St. Agnes Mausoleum, Menands. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 301 Hackett Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
