    Sister Mary Driscoll

    April 30, 1940 - November 15, 2018

    Albany, NY-Sister Mary of the Incarnation, OP [Mary Elizabeth Driscoll], passed away on November 15, 2018. She was the daughter of James and Nancy Driscoll of Yonkers, New York. She is survived by her sisters Nancy Baker and Donna Santos, nephews Shaun Baker and Jason Santos, niece Cathleen Kusel, and cousin Regina O’Connell. She was predeceased by her nephew James Baker. She is also survived by 7 grand nieces, 2 grand nephews, 2 great grandnieces and 1 great grandnephew. After graduating from St Clare Academy in 1957, Sister entered the Franciscans where she taught fifth graders and studied history at Fordham before becoming a registered nurse. She transferred to the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1972. There she studied Scripture with Sister Kathryn Sullivan, RSCJ, worked in Bellevue’s emergency room, and went to Kenya as a midwife and with the aid of the people built a dispensary. Back in the US, Sister became a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, sometimes helping out at a local Dominican monastery. Over time, she discerned a vocation to the Dominican contemplative life and transferred to Corpus Christi Monastery in the Bronx, at the age of 55, and with Parkinson’s Disease. She made her Solemn Profession in the Dominican Order on December 8, 2001. In 2007 she moved to Rosary Hill, Hawthorne, NY, where she was lovingly cared for by the Dominican Sisters for twelve years. She became a member of the Monastery of Mary the Queen, Girard, IL. In need of more intensive care, on August 24, 2018, she was accepted at Teresian House, Albany, NY, where she died. Funeral Masses have been celebrated in both Corpus Christi Monastery, Bronx, NY and Teresian House Infant of Prague Chapel, Albany, NY In lieu of flowers, please send donations to her monastic community of Mary the Queen Monastery, 1237 W Monroe St, Springfield, Illinois 62704.
