September 26, 1951 - April 1, 2021
Albany – Robert E. (Bobby “Newks”) Newkirk sailed peacefully Into the Mystic on Thursday, April 1, 2021, embarking from his home. Bobby was born September 26, 1951 in Albany, New York, the sixth child of Russell and Barbara Newkirk. His story lives on through his children, Dani, Nik, and Bobby; his grandson Keegan; former wife Mickey; and his loyal mastiffs. Bobby is survived by his brothers Ray Newkirk (Christy), Tom Newkirk (former wife Debbie), Pete Newkirk (Marilyn), Dr. Russ Newkirk, and brother-in-law Mark Diefendorf (Barb). Upon crossing the Threshold, Bobby’s sister Bonnie will meet him at the Door. Bobby graduated from the Florida Air Academy and the University of Miami. He retired from a successful career in publishing and printing, working many years for Newkirk Products and Digital Xpress. Bobby was also the founder, owner, and CMI (Chief Mower In-Charge) of the Lawn Ranger, Inc. Bobby’s sanctuary was his camp on Caroga Lake, where he captivated family & friends with his epic stories. He was known as a master boatman whose motto was “Driver’s Error”; assuring generations of water-sport enthusiasts that it would all be “Otay”. Bobby’s closest family & friends will privately Celebrate him Home. A tribute honoring Bobby’s free-spirited soul will be held in June.
