July 20, 1922 - March 30, 2021
Albany-Marie T. Boyle Neidl, 98, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home at the Eddy Village Green in Slingerlands on Tuesday morning, March 30, 2021. Born in Albany on July 20, 1922, Marie was the eldest of Philip Boyle and Jane Kent’s seven children. In 1941 Marie graduated first in her class at St. Joseph’s Academy in Arbor Hill. With her high marks, she earned a scholarship to the College of St. Rose, but she declined the opportunity and entered the workforce to help support her family. After marrying Michael J. Neidl in 1944, Marie left her job to have two sons, but she returned to work once both boys were in school because staying home was, as she said, driving her nuts. From there, she embarked on a long career at the Hartford Insurance Company. Over the course of more than 30 years, she worked her way up to run the Delmar office’s human resources department. Marie took immense satisfaction and pride in her career. After retiring in 1987, she grew bored with her newfound free time, so she returned to work part time at the Villa Mary Immaculate Nursing Home. There was just no stopping her. The lady loved to be active and busy all her life. Marie was a total news junkie, devouring the newspaper cover to cover every day, “looking at” her “programs” on TV, and taking continuing-education classes well into her 80s. But Marie was most concerned with news of her family, always inquiring earnestly, “What’s new?” at the beginning of every visit and call. She loved us, and we loved her deeply in return. We are so proud of her goodness, her deep and real faith, and her innate sense of justice and fairness that guided her long and admirable life. Marie was the beloved mother of Michael J. Neidl II and the late Thomas J. Neidl. She is survived by her sister and dear friend, Sr. Ellen Boyle, RSM, and her daughters-in-law, Bernadette Neidl and Linda Fisher Neidl, whom she loved as though they were her own. Marie was a generous, loving “Grammy” to her six grandchildren and their spouses—Michael III (Amee Camp), Stephanie Neidl Clifford (Jim), Ben (Cyndy), Jessica (Bill Brandow), Chris (Reena Shah), and Phoebe (Paul Hamill)—and nine great-grandchildren: Michael IV, Jimmy, Jack, Annabelle, Eloise, Lucy, Som, Rouny, and George. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews and a second mother to her sister’s children, Kathy Kannaley Barclay and Paul Kannaley. Marie is also survived by many cousins and dear friends, especially those among the Religious Sisters of Mercy and Mercy Associates. In addition to losing her son Tom thirteen years ago, Marie was predeceased by her husband, Mike, her sister Rosemary, and her brothers, Philip, John, George, and James Boyle. Marie’s family want to thank the staff at the Beverwyck for keeping her safe and comfortable during her stay and at the end of her life.
