Margaret Mary Carroll

Albany-Margaret Mary Carroll, 89, entered Eternal Life wrapped in the loving arms of the Blessed Mother, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. Born in Albany, she was the beloved daughter of Joseph A. and Genevieve Allen Johnson. Peg graduated from St. Teresa’s School, Albany, The Academy of The Holy Names, Albany, The College of St. Rose, Albany and lastly Albany Medical Center College as a Physical Therapist. She worked for a brief time as a physical therapist, and then went on to become a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. As a devout Catholic, Peg gave of herself to her church, and to many, many organizations. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity; the Friends Group and Monday Morning Prayer Group at All Saints Catholic Church, Albany. Peg was a founding member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Prayer Group. She was a past president of the Altar Rosary Society at the former Holy Cross Church, Albany. Her volunteer work included serving as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Peter’s Hospital; preparing meals for the Interfaith Homeless Shelter; and many years ago, the Adopt a Family at Christmas Program at St. John’s-St. Ann’s Parish in Albany. Peg enjoyed vacationing with her beloved family, and went on over 14 pilgrimages to Medjugorje. She also organized many trips for friends to both the Devine Mercy Chapel in Stockbridge, MA and the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs, Auriesville, NY Peg was nominated in 2005 for the Jefferson Award, and in 1997 received the Distinguished Alumni at The Academy of the Holy Names. She enjoyed spending summers at her camp on Sacandaga Lake and playing cards with her Bridge group on Clermont Street. She was the beloved wife of the late Andrew J. Carroll; cherished mother of Andrew J. Carroll (Meg), Timothy G. Carroll (Peggy), Marylourdes Stiglmeier (Gary), and Jean M. Ward (John); loved grandmother of Jennifer, Meghan, Sheila, Sarah, Katie, Greg, Joe and Rachel; great grandmother of Devin and Mason; sister in law of Patricia O’Rourke; Best friend since childhood MaryLourdes Zak; Friend and Cocktail Companion Eileen Cameron; several nieces and nephews survive. The family would like to thank Valerie Cox the Chaplain at St. Peter’s Hospice for being so wonderful to Peg’s children. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Peg’s family Sunday, July 2, 2017 4:00 to 7:00 pm in McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany. All are invited to meet at the funeral home at 3:30 pm to recite the Rosary. Funeral services Monday, July 3, 2017 at 10:00 am in McVeigh Funeral Home, Albany thence to Christ the King Church at 11:00 am where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held in St. Agnes Cemetery, immediately following the Mass.
