    Lucy Rodriguez

    April 27, 1947 - October 26, 2020

Lucy Rodriguez, 73, passed away peacefully, on Monday, October 26th, 2020. Born in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, on April 27, 1947, Lucy and her family moved to the farms of Suffolk, Long Island when she was just three years old. Soon thereafter, the family moved to Williamsburg in Brooklyn. It was through the game of baseball that Lucy met the love of her life, Angel Rodriguez. Angel was a baseball player on the team her brothers played on in the league her father, Juan, oversaw. Lucy graduated from Mabel Dean Bacon Vocational High School, where she was trained as a dental assistant, a career she enjoyed. Lucy loved music and movies: anything with Barbara Streisand, Sally Field, Dorris Day, and the like. When The Sound of Music, What’s up Doc, The Trouble with Angels, or The Jazz Singer came on the television, everything stopped. Lucy was a selfless person, always willing to help others and looked forward to sending birthday and holiday cards to her grandson and grand nieces and nephews. Lucy and Angel moved upstate several years ago to be closer to family. She loved her family dearly and was extremely proud of her only grandchild, Jared Rolon. Jared was otherwise known as “my handsome grandson.” Lucy is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years Angel Rodriguez, their daughter Alithia (Philip), grandson Jared, her mother Margarita (Benjamin), brothers Juan and Raul, her niece Jeanette and nephews John Jr., David, and Luis. She is predeceased by her father, Juan. The family would like to extend their love and gratitude to the healthcare heroes at both Samaritan Hospital and the Barnwell Nursing Home for their loving and extraordinary care of Lucy. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Lucy’s family on Friday, October 30, 2020 from 9:00 to 10:00 am in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Please only enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot driveway; Masks and Social Distancing are required; and 40 visitors at a time will be allowed in the funeral home. The Rite of Interment will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871 at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Lucy’s memory to the Mental Health Association of New York State, 194 Washington Avenue, Suite 415, Albany, NY 12210.
