January 20, 1939 - December 12, 2020
Albany-It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of our beloved father Joe, on December 12, 2020. He passed peacefully in his home with his loving family surrounding him. We believe our mother, his beloved wife of 52 years, held him close as he passed, and then, hand in hand walked through the gates of heaven to be together again for eternity. Joe was born January 20, 1939 to John J. Cronin and Marie L. Jaundreau. He married his high school sweetheart, Laurie (Lorena E. Ehrhardt), at age 19 in 1958. He attended C.B.A. class of 1956 and then enlisted in the Marines. He received his electrical engineering degree in 1962 from H.V.C.C, while working a full time job to support his growing family. He graduated top in his class. He was then recruited on campus by IBM where he began a lifelong career. He was a proud Marine, a gifted musician beautifully playing both piano and accordion all by ear. When his kids were raised, he fulfilled his dream of becoming a pilot and bought himself a Piper Cherokee airplane. He was a “Jack of all Trades” and master of many, if not all. There was nothing Joe could not do, build, fix or invent when he set his mind to it. Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He and our mom provided us a loving home and many memorable summers on Sacandaga Lake. We will forever miss our campfires at the camp, listening to our Dad play his accordion in the evenings for everyone to enjoy. Our biggest request was always “Puff The Magic Dragon”. Those were the best of times. He was a role model and mentor to many, providing a strong shoulder to lean on as he possessed an innate wisdom about life and possessed a devotion to helping so many who sought his counsel. He had a way of helping you see things clearly, never judged or made one feel inept and he was a confidence builder. He will always be remembered as the most amazing man to us. He set the bar very high for how to live one’s life. We all endeavored to emulate him. The mold was broken the day our Dad was born. We all will miss him dearly and are grateful for all of the incredible loving times with him and we will cherish these memories forever. He is survived by his children: Joey Cronin Jr. (Elizabeth Verno), Kathleen Cronin-Carr (Tom Carr), Sean Cronin (Jewell Reichert), Tina (Cronin) Barach, Laurie (Cronin) Lichorat (Steve Lichorat); his grandchildren: Megan Cronin, James Cronin (Jenn), Kaitlyn(Cronin) Matteo (Michael Matteo Jr.), Patrick Quinn, Kelly Quinn, Aidan Quinn, Nora Quinn, Alexandra (Cronin) White (Matthew White), Dylan Cronin, Zachary Barach, Jordan Barach, Eliza Barach, Garrett Duffy (Auna), Connor Duffy, Dahne Duffy, Reilly Duffy, Lance Lichorat (Claire), Spencer Lichorat; great-grandchildren: Gabriel Cronin, Emily Cronin, Michael Matteo III, Lauren Matteo, Anthony Duffy and Theodore Lichorat. He was predeceased by his brother John J. Cronin,Jr. and is survived by his brother Charles Cronin (Mickey) and many extended family members and friends. And lastly, Honey, Dad’s Dog and loving companion. We wish to extend our deepest and heartfelt gratitude to his personal health caregivers lovingly referred to as “Joe's Team“. With their care in place, Dad, whom they lovingly referred to as "Joey" or ”JoeJoe”,was able to live in his home, on his own terms, with dignity, respect and surrounded by those who loved him. To Marci, Lystra, Jessica, Towana, Melissa, Nysherra, Susan, Lynne, Sherrie and Ruby, who with skill and love, supported Dad through his final journey. They became part of our family and we were blessed to have had them. Thank you to you all.
