January 25, 1940 - February 24, 2021
Albany-Joan Marjorie Hollner, 81, passed peacefully into eternal life on Wednesday February 24, surrounded by her loving husband and children. Joan was born in Albany, NY on January 25, 1940, the daughter of Ralph C. Whitbeck and Elizabeth Schraver. She was a 1957 graduate of Albany High School. As a teenager, Joan met the love of her life, Robert A. Hollner, in the church youth group and they married on May 23, 1964. Joan worked for National Commercial Bank & Trust Co. from 1958 until1977. After that she worked in various secretarial positions part-time while raising her 3 children. Joan was also the Financial Secretary for Bethany Reformed Church from 1976 up until her passing. Most important to Joan was her love for her family and she was devoted to keeping in touch with her extended family. Family always came first for Joan and she never missed a birthday, school concert, school event, or sporting event for all of her children and her grandchildren. You could always count on seeing Joan cheering everyone on. She also loved her family cats, precious time with her grandchildren, playing games, and she especially enjoyed our family game nights. Joan cherished her time with her devoted husband and they would enjoy working on puzzles together and sitting on the porch at night listening to music or a baseball game with a glass of wine. Music was a very important part of Joan's life as she enjoyed listening to music and was always singing. Joan was a lifelong member of the Bethany Reformed Church choir and was also a member of the Bell Choir. She had her seat in the choir and it was her beautiful voice that always stood out during the hymns. Joan also shared her wonderful talent by singing several duets with her husband. Joan had the voice of an angel and the heart of a saint. Joan's hobbies included doing crossword puzzles, watching baseball, bowling, and gardening. She especially enjoyed following the World Series and managing the family's annual World Series Pool along with her sister since 1971. Although Joan was not much of a traveler, she loved her family vacations. Her family convinced her to get on a plane for the first time in 2007 for a family trip to Disney World and she cherished those wonderful memories. Time spent with friends was very important to Joan as well and she was the President of “Kay's Supper Club”. Joan was also a pillar of Bethany Reformed Church and was devoted to organizing and participating in most of the church's events and programs. Joan was truly one of God's angels on Earth and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her loving husband, Joan is survived by her three children, David Robert (Tristan) Hollner of Clifton Park, Debra Elizabeth (Lisa) Hollner of Albany, and Donna Marie (Vinny) Hollner Trama of Colonie, as well as her loving cousin, Marion Hollner, and her brother-in-law, James J. Finke, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She especially cherished her four grandchildren, Lucas Hollner, Benjamin Hollner, Brandon Trama, and Emily Trama. Joan was predeceased by her parents, her sister Elaine Finke, aunts, uncles, and several cousins.
