Sarasota, FL-Jack Brodie passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 14th at Sarasota Memorial Hospital Venice, Florida at the age of 97. Jack was born in Troy, NY to John and Ethel Brodie, and raised in Albany, NY, where he attended Albany High School. Jack was a member of the Greatest Generation, enlisting in the Navy the day after Pearl Harbor. He served as Seaman First Class on LST #699, where he earned the Asiatic Pacific Medal (2 Stars) the Philippine Liberation Ribbon (2 Stars) and the Victory Medal for his service in the Pacific. After the war, he returned to Albany to marry the girl next door, Patricia Ann Colborn. Together they ran Brodie Flowers, a wholesale and retail florist business on New Scotland Avenue in Albany. Jack later worked as a Freihofer Bakery delivery man, foreman for the Getty Oil Company and salesman for Polsinello Fuels until his retirement. Jack was an active member of a variety of organizations, including Masonic Wadsworth Lodge #417 F&AM (59 years), Fraternal Order of Eagles and Fraternal Order of Elks. Jack was happiest when in Canada bass fishing, boating or sitting around the campfire at Burden Lake, golfing in Myrtle Beach, or playing badminton, ping-pong, billiards, darts, cards, horseshoes, or just about anything that brought friends and family together. His wife pre-deceased him in 2002 after a wonderful run of 52 years of marriage. He is survived by his loving children Michael (Rosann) of Arlington, Virginia, and Patricia Huff, of Englewood, Florida. His son-in-law, Sam Huff Jr. pre-deceased him in 2018. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jack’s family Friday, April 22, 2022 after 12:00 pm, with his Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 pm at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. The interment will immediately follow the Service at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Albany, NY.
