J. Benjamin "Ben" McFerran

Slingerlands-J. Benjamin “Ben” McFerran, 75, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2016, at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Henry J. and Millicent Norris McFerran. Brother of Millicent (George) Zibell, Henry (Diana) McFerran (deceased) and Marbeth Shay. Ben grew up in Albany, NY a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, Siena College Loudonville, NY. He was employed by the Social Security Administration, and thereafter by the NYS Department of Social Services, as the Director of Human Resources and Management, retiring in 2002. Ben was a member of Pine Bush Little League, coaching from 1972 - 1978. Later, he joined Tri-Village Little League and Bethlehem Babe Ruth, coaching from 1979-1986. He was the President of the Bethlehem Football Booster Club in 1985. Ben was an avid fan of the Yankees, Siena Basketball and his grandchildren’s participation in their sports activities. He greatly admired his children for their exceptional dedication to their families. He was the beloved husband of Judith (Judie McKiernan) McFerran, cherished father of James C. (Marianne Leung) Michael B., William J. (Kimberly) and Meghan (William) Taylor, grandfather (Pa) to Morgan, Grace, Mollie, Maggie, Riley, Jack and Katie, and his faithful dog, Sparky. He is survived by his sisters, Millicent (George) Zibell, Marbeth Shay and his sister-in-law Diana McFerran. Ben’s family would like to acknowledge Community Hospice Home Care, for the compassionate care they provided through their RN’s and Aides, and the many friends and relatives that gave him support and love during these last weeks. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ben’s family Thursday, October 6, 2016 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany. Funeral services Friday, October 7, 2016 at 8:15 am from the McVeigh Funeral Home, Albany thence to the Parish of Mater Christi, Albany at 9:00 am where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will immediately follow the Funeral Mass at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, NY.
