Harry Warren Taber, Ph.D.

Albany – Harry Warren Taber passed away on February 7, 2021 due to complications of Parkinson's Disease. A scientist, he held the position of Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at The Wadsworth Laboratories, NYS Department of Health, before he retired. Among his academic positions, he was Professor, Department of Microbiology at Albany Medical College and later served as the Chair of the Biomedical Sciences Department at the School of Public Health, University at Albany. Born in Longview, WA to the late Mildred (née Schulstad) and the late Russell James Taber, Sr., he was raised in Oregon. He was a gentle intellectual with wide ranging interests and talents, including carpentry, gardening, and music, playing the clarinet, block flute, and classical guitar. An advocate for social justice, he participated in civil rights protests beginning in the 1960s. He was a cherished friend, a generous mentor and colleague, and a devoted husband and father. He leaves behind his wife Jeroo Kotval, his daughter Niloufer, his son-in-law Iman Sen, his brother Russell James Taber, Jr., his sister Lina Hoffenbacker, and the loving memory of his late daughter Shahnaz. He loved and was well-loved by both the family he was born into and the family he married into.
