Guilderland-Frederick K. (Fred) Farrell 79, of Guilderland, NY passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 29 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Fred was born on July 1, 1942 in Albany, NY to Mark A. Farrell and Florence V. Farrell. He was the beloved husband of 55 years of the late Sandra (Sandy) Jones Farrell. He is survived by his three children; Shawn (Sharon) Farrell Leloup and their children Hannah, Hunter and Abigail; Stephanie (Frank) Brennan and their two children Ryan and Christian; and Mark Farrell. Brother of the late Florence Howard ( late Bernard Howard), the late Carol Endres ( late Joseph Endres), and brother-in-law of Marilyn Gower (the late Donald Gower). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families whom he held very close to his heart. Fred graduated from Colonie Central High School in 1960. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army serving on active duty from 1961-1964, and the United States Army Reserve from 1964-1967. He worked for General Electric for many years and then went on to have a long and successful career with Lifetouch National School Studios until his retirement in 1998. In Fred’s early years raising his family with Sandy they enjoyed boating and lifelong friendships on Lake George. Fred cherished his long friendships with his neighbors in Guilderland. In retirement, Fred and Sandy enjoyed their winters in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. They made incredible friendships with people from all over the United States and Nova Scotia. While in Florida, Fred shared his love of motorcycles by starting a group that would travel on day trips throughout southwest Florida and was a regular at the Monday night poker games with his friends. He and Sandy enjoyed entertaining and gathering with friends eating in restaurants that had the best view and best seat in the house. In the summer, Fred looked forward to his annual trip to Goose Rocks Beach, Maine with Sandy and their daughter and family and appreciated the many incredible memories made there and trips to Colorado to see his son Shawn and his family and enjoyed the projects he and his son Mark completed. Fred was devoted to his five grandchildren; Hannah, Hunter, and Abigail, Ryan, and Christian, whom he adored. He and Sandy attended many important events for Hannah, Hunter, and Abigail whether it be dance recitals, sporting events or graduations. Fred was proud to say he taught his grandson Ryan how to golf, the love of building and making things with precision, and he loved attending every important sporting or school related event he could. He was an avid fan of every baseball team for him that his grandson Christian played on and loved attending every important school related event. His relationship with his grandchildren will always be remembered and cherished. His humor, the love of laughter, and mentorship will never be forgotten. He loved them with all his heart and was incredibly proud of each and every one of them. Fred was a faithful communicant of St. Pius X Church, Loudonville, NY. It brought him great joy to attend weekly Mass with his family and see his “church family.” Fred’s family wishes to express its deep gratitude to the staff at Peregrine Senior Living, where he resided the last months of his life.
