Dorothy M. Signor Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Albany-Dorothy M. Signor, 94, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2022, one week before her 94th birthday, with her loving family by her side. Born and raised in Albany, she was the daughter of Richard and Mary Gotha. Dorothy was a lifelong homemaker. She spent her life raising her nine children and nurturing and raising 27 grandchildren. The house where Dorothy and her late husband Robert N. Signor lived was the heartbeat of the Signor family. Pool parties, basketball games, holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners were all held at 9 Glendale Avenue. When you visited mom/nan at the house, it was filled with not only her children and grandchildren, all of whom could not have loved her more, it was filled with love and joy. Dorothy made sure that all nine of her children had access to the best education and went on to graduate from college. All nine children went on to be professionals from a Doctor to CPAs to Nurses. Dorothy enjoyed holiday family outings at Thatcher Park, including barbeques and family softball games. Vacations were usually held in Cape Cod, Myrtle Beach and Long Beach Island (LBI). Most recently, family vacations in Long Beach Island, NJ, were her favorite. The memories from those LBI vacations, hanging out on Petey’s porch, which drew more than 50 family members and friends, will be loving memories for her grandchildren to cherish. Being in Dorothy’s orbit was a unique experience. While she raised nine children each child felt her direct attention as if they were an only child. The same with her grandchildren. She loved them all equally and was proud of all their achievements. On her refrigerator were newspaper clippings of her grandchildren’s accomplishments. Along with pictures of her husband and children. She was married to the love of her life, Robert (Bob) N. Signor, World War II and Korean War Veteran, who passed away in 2011. Dorothy and Bob were married for 63 years. She will join Robert and her beloved daughter Sharon Signor-Purcell, who passed away in 2008, in heaven. Sharon’s passing was particularly hard on Dorothy and the family and knowing she will be reunited with Sharon eases the pain of this loss. Dorothy and Robert enjoyed many fun times and dinners with their long-time friends the Glickmans and Van Kurens and we thank them for those friendships. In addition, the family thanks neighbors, the Overdorfs and Smiths, for their affection and kindness toward our parents over the years. Dorothy is survived by her daughters Linda Michalak; Donna (Gregory) Kirby; Dorothy (Matt) LaClair; as well as sons Robert (Bernadette) Signor; Richard (Debra) Signor; Michael (Victoria) Signor; John Signor (Kelly Lazzaro); Thomas (Kristin) Signor and son-in-law J. Peter Purcell. She is also survived by her loving and cherished grandchildren, who she adored, and great grandchildren. They are: Julie (Brian) Pidgeon; Sharon (Jake) Conlin; Michael Michalak; Justin, Christopher and Daniel Signor; Karl and Eric Signor; Christopher, Emily, Brendan, Conor, Maggie and Molly Kirby; Myla and Jared Signor; Ryan Barnett, Christian, Alyssa and Drew Signor; Brittany, Matthew, Justin, Braden, Jakob, Ava and Cameron LaClair; and great granddaughters Fionna Conlin and Emma Signor. She is also survived by her cousin, Marcie Nugent. Dorothy’s family would like to thank Dr. Howard Terry for his longstanding medical care that he provided to Dorothy. Those who knew Dorothy and the Signor family understand what a devastating loss this is to the Signor clan; rather than mourn her loss, the family would prefer that we all celebrate the wonderful and loving life she had and the devotion she gave to her family.
