Dolores Joan (Collins) Lather

Albany – Dolores Joan (Collins) Lather, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the Teresian House. Born on August 14, 1932, in Albany, she was the oldest of twelve children of the late Harold and Adele Collins. Dolores was a graduate of Albany High School and sang in the chorus. Dolores was married to Gerald M. Lather for 57 years. She worked for the State of New York for many years and retired as a Compensation Claims Examiner for the State Insurance Fund in 1996. Dolores was a dedicated worker and was well-respected and well-liked by her co-workers and supervisors. Dolores loved music. She liked to do crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and jigsaw puzzles. She bowled in the “All in the Family” league. She was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed watching sports on TV; her favorites were baseball, ice skating, and the Olympics. She enjoyed gatherings with family. She loved her grandchildren and great-grand children and was so proud of them all. She was very generous and it gave her joy to give to others. Dolores was the loving mother of Barbara Molineaux (Alban), Michael Lather (Catherine), Diana Salak (Dave), William Lather, Kathleen Lather, Patricia Preville (Dave), Sheryl Kretzler (Tom), and Carol Lather; mother-in-law to Jerry Trainor; sister to Sue Capasso, Deena, John, Fred, Bruce and Joseph Collins; and the devoted grandmother to 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; and an aunt to many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Gerald Lather; her young son, Joseph (Marky) Lather; her daughter, Donna Trainor; her grandchild, Thomas Porter Lather; her daughter-in-law, Donna D’Angelo Lather; and her Aunt Carrie and Uncle John Mohr (both of whom cared for her as a child); her sisters, Carol Moreland and Adele Panella; her brothers, Harold Jr., Edwin, Ronald, and Robert Collins. Her children would like to thank the staff of the Teresian House for the care given to their mother. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Teresian House or charity of your choice. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Dolores’s family on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. A service honoring her life will be held during this time at 6:00 pm. Please only enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot doorway. Relatives and friends are also invited to gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:00 am to proceed together to St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
