Diane Houck

Albany, NY-Diane Houck passed away peacefully on July 23rd, 2022. Born May 22, 1946, she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret Scaringe. Diane was educated in Albany, a proud student of Catholic Schools Our Lady of Angels and the Vincentian Institute. She also attended evening classes at SUNY Siena college and Junior College of Albany, where she graduated with an Associates degree in Nursing. Diane enjoyed an aspiring 40 year career with the New York State department of Tax and Finance, audit division and a dedicated career at Albany Memorial Hospital. She was active in the community, enthusiastically coaching girls softball at Westland hills little league for many years. Diane was also a member of the Line air patrol, cadet squadron at Albany airport, achieving the name of lieutenant. In her leisure time Diane liked to read and study history, circa 1900-1945, World War I and World War II. She read with interest and a sense of intrigue, accounts of battle on land and sea. She also enjoyed watching black and white silent movies and war documentaries of the same period. Diane had a great appreciation for nature, the ocean and snow. Diane’s greatest joy and happiness came from being with her family. She was truly devoted to her children and grand children. She was passionate about sharing her strong faith and love of education with her grandchildren. Diane is survived by her loving daughters, Donna Kahnle and Gina Carr. She is survived by her 8 precious grandchildren, Nicholas Carr, Christopher Carr, Samantha Carr, Kimberlee Carr, Kellianne Carr, Michael Carr, Natalie Carr, Thomas Kahnle (Veronica), and her adoring great granddaughter Vera Rose Kahnle. She is also survived by her cherished brother and sister and their spouses, James Scaringe and his wife Gail, Peggy DiFabbio and her husband Joe. In addition she is survived by her beloved niece and nephew, Trisha Holland (Shawn Farhnam), Griffith (Lisa) Holland, Jeffrey Holland, James A. Scaringe, and Joseph (Lindsay) Scaringe. Lastly she is survived by aunts, uncles and numerous cousins. Diane was blessed with dear forever friends, Mary and Don Johnson, Donna and Doug Wagner and Ken Lasky. Funeral services Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family after 11:30 am Thursday in the funeral home. Please only enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Diane will be entombed at Memory Gardens, Briarwood Mausoleum immediately following her funeral service.
