William Douglas Fitzgerald

Albany, NY-William Douglas Fitzgerald entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 8, 2025. A life-long resident of Albany, New York, he was the son of the late Miriam K. Anderson and Frederick W. Anderson. Douglas was educated in the Albany Catholic and public school system. Everyone referred to him by his middle name “Douglas”. Douglas had retired from the New York National Guard for many years prior to his passing. Douglas served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he was employed as a plumber and pipe fitter, skills he learned while deployed and on active duty in the U.S. One of his passions was watching and cheering for his favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies. He also enjoyed engaging in target practice at local firing ranges and making miniature soldiers every year as holiday gifts for friends and family. Douglas loved and enjoyed spending special occasions and holidays with his family, especially with his wife of 23 years, Annie M. Fitzgerald. Douglas was a generous and kind person and will be greatly missed. We will always remember his fantastic mashed potatoes and potato pancakes. Douglas is survived by his devoted wife, Annie M. Fitzgerald, his son Robert Fitzgerald, daughter Michelle Tropiano and daughter Camisha (Lamar) Lundy. He is also survived by his brother John Anderson, sisters Ann Renz (Truman), Ruth Allgaier, Carole (Brian) Marmulstein, grandchildren Quayvaun Young, Khadijah Davis, Chrisiah Smith, Michael Tropiano, Nicholas Tropiano, and great-grandson Jeremias Morton. Also survived by special nephew Andrew Douglas and nieces Johna and Marisa. In addition to his parents, Douglas was predeceased by his son Richard P. Fitzgerald, brother, Frederick Anderson and his beloved nephew Jeremiah Anderson. We extend a special thank you to his lifelong friend Edward Bardon. Douglas enjoyed conversations about history with his brother John, talks with his cousin Janice Clandy regarding their Irish heritage, visiting Carole Ann Henry and her husband for many years and his cousin Bruce Robinson. He loved his Marine Corp reunions and spending time with his special brothers of the Lima Brothers of the Lima Brothers Company; Dan (Jane) Price, Charles (Pam) Armitage and Lorenzo Exelland Terrell. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Funeral Services Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 9:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Ave. (Rev. John Bradley Way), Albany, NY 12206 where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Mass.
