Virginia M. Matacchiero

Delmar - Virginia Marion Matacchiero, 86, died at The Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, New York on May 16, 2013. Mrs. Matacchiero, daughter of William and Catherine Kahl, was born in Albany on December 5, 1926. She was predeceased by her husband Augustine in August 2011. At age 18, Mrs. Matacchiero (Ginny) entered the St. Peter's Hospital School of Nursing in Albany New York. Graduating with her Registered Nurse certification, Mrs. Matacchiero dedicated her entire 40 year nursing career to pediatric care at St. Peter's, demonstrating her love of children. Ginny's passions in life included first and foremost, family as well as cooking and needle work. Large family gatherings were her specialty. Organized by Ginny and her sisters, Sunday dinners with 30 or more family members, including many children, were common place growing up in the Matacchiero household. This created a strong family culture which lives on today. Ginny’s hands never stopped, she loved to knit and crochet afghans, baby blankets, sweaters, and her highly sought after “booties” which kept all our feet warm during cold winter nights. Ginny is survived by her eight children, Margaret Capuano (John), Mark Matacchiero (Nancy), Mary Matacchiero, Jeanie Berrios (Tony), Michael Matacchiero, Catherine Barry (Vincent), Richard Matacchiero (Debra), Rosemary DeMarco (Vincent); her sister, Dorothy Halloran, eighteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She will be missed by all. Funeral services Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany at 8:15 am thence to Blessed Sacrament Church at 9:00 am where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the funeral home. Interment will follow the Mass in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
