Ross Steven Lenet

Guilderland, NY-Sadly and suddenly Ross Steven Lenet died in his home Saturday, December 21, 2024 leaving a great hole in the life and heart of his wife Shannon Libbey Lenet. Ross was born in Richmond, VA the son of the late Bernard and Rose (Hymen) Lenet. Most of Ross’ life was lived in Silver Spring, MD. Ross received his Masters and undergraduate degrees from the University of Maryland. He began his teaching career in 1974 as a mathematics teacher who became the developer of Computer programs in schools such as Academy of the Holy Names (MD) and Sidwell Friends in DC. In these schools and throughout the DC metropolitan area he was seen as an expert in the area of computer setting us programs which touched all departments of the schools both curricular and administrative. His work in this area inspired many of his students to pursue careers in computer technology and related areas. His patience and willingness to help faculty members and students to master computer skills to setting up and maintenance on their own computers was legendary. Ross shared his vast knowledge of mathematics and computer technology generously. Throughout his teaching career he was a very respected and a well-loved teacher by his peers and his students. His last position before retiring was at Doane Stuart as a teacher. In retirement Ross continued to keep up with the technology he helped to bring to schools assisting family and friends with their computer needs and problems. He voraciously read the daily papers: Washington Post and NY Times to name a few keeping up with politics and world events. He wrote and worked continuously concerning Climate Change and was well known locally, nationally and internationally. He was an excellent writer with published editorials in local papers and even in Politico. His great concern was that we work to make our world, our country and climate better for the generations to follow us. He especially was dedicated to this for the children in his life. It was his legacy to them. Ross will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Shannon, and family his brother Richard (Jan) Lenet, nieces Sara (Ben) and Alison(Giovanni) Smedley and nephew Bryan (Cindy) Lenet along with many grand nephews and nieces. Ross’ absence will be greatly felt by his friend since his college days Danny (Lois) Lanier. Ross was very happy and honored when our dear friends and loved Lindsey and Anthony Gotti asked Ross and Shannon to be adopted grandparents to their daughters Evie and Lainey. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ross’s family Saturday, December 28, 2024 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. His Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 pm. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. The Rite of Committal will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, NY immediately following the Service.
