Patricia Fitzgerald Barr

Patricia Fitzgerald Barr entered into Eternal Life on Friday, August 19, 2011 surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Troy, New York to the late Gerald and Marion Fitzgerald, Pat was a graduate of Catholic High Class of 1956 and St. Peter’s School of Nursing. She received her BA from the College of St. Rose and MS from Russell Sage. An accomplished woman and respected community leader, Pat’s greatest legacy was her children: J. Sullivan; Tim (Tina Keane); Kerry O’Connor (Tim), Charlotte, NC; Kyran (Brandi Battistoni), Redondo Beach, CA; Colin; Shannon (East Greenbush); Kelly DelMonte (Joe), Hermosa Beach, CA; and her late daughter Colleen. She leaves behind her brothers and sisters: Jerry & Roseann Fitzgerald; Ned & Rosanne Fitzgerald; Kathy and Ross McCabe; Sheila & Jack Flint; Sarah and Bryan Rudes; Susan and Tom Sliva; Mary & Don Marble; and Margaret Fitzgerald; and grandchildren Hannah, Kaylee, Timothy, Zachary Barr, Devin & Tim O’Connor, Bryn & Brayden Lappies, Fitzy, Jaden & Kiera DelMonte, Kiera Zmitrovich, and great granddaughter Anabella. She also leaves behind Brian and Barbara Barr, many nieces, nephews and special friends including Danny O’Connell, Pat Collins, Helen Breen, Betty Sullivan, son in-law Brian Lappies, and her many McKegney cousins across the pond in Ireland where she enjoyed dual citizenship. Pat worked and volunteered for many social service organizations and received numerous awards and recognition, including the YWCA Women in Tribute Award. She was a life Trustee of St. Patrick’s Parish and involved on several boards and committees at the parish and Diocesan levels. She was recently appointed to the Seton Health Parish Nurse Advisory Council after starting a Parish Nursing Program in Albany. The family wishes to extend great appreciation to the professional and compassionate staff at St Peter’s Hospital, especially her nurses, and Dr. Coleman and Dr. Mitnick. Family and Friends are invited and may call at McVeigh Funeral Home on Monday, August 22, 4:00 to 7:00pm A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 23 at 9:30 am at The Shrine of Our Lady of the Americas, formerly St. Patrick’s Parish on 283 Central Ave in Albany.
