Patricia Jane Bucher

Albany-Patricia J. Bucher of Albany passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2015. She was 89 years young. Raised in Delmar, NY, Pat was the daughter of the late John J. and Marion Coogan Portley. She was the cherished wife of John (Jack) V. Bucher, Jr. for 55 years. She was the loving mother of four sons, Dr. John (Sue) Bucher of Guilderland, NY, Michael (Vicki) Bucher of Clermont, FL, Gregory (Therese) Bucher of Delmar, NY, and Brian (Melissa) Bucher of Colonie, NY. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Brittany (Mike) Martin, Bridget, Kelly, Katie, Gregory, Jr., Kevin, Meghan, and Nicholas Bucher. Pat is also survived by her two sisters, Mary Tracy of Albany and Ann Barber of Lebanon, New Jersey. Patricia graduated from the Vincentian Institute in Albany and went on to graduate from Wheelock College with a degree in elementary education. She taught kindergarten at Elsmere Elementary school in Delmar. She married the love of her life, Jack, in 1953 and was a devoted wife and mother. Pat was active in many organizations as a volunteer while raising her family. Pat was an active member of the Altar Rosary Society of Holy Cross Church. After her sons were older she worked for many years with her sister, Mary, in her interior design business. Pat had so many loving friends in her neighborhood and community including the Albany Country Club and the Fort Orange Club. Her kind manner, keen interest in everyone she met and zest for life was felt by all. She loved people and it was evident in her active social life. She enjoyed the golfing and bowling leagues at the Albany Country Club and for several years served as President of both the golf and bowling leagues at the ACC. Pat also truly enjoyed the days spent at Saratoga Racetrack with her family. She was a heck of a handicapper!! Pat loved watching her Red Sox, staying up late at night to catch every inning! The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Emergency Department and Medical Care Unit, 5th Floor C wing of Albany Medical Center and to the staff at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital for their compassion and professionalism. Funeral services Friday, April 24, 2015 at 10:00 am from the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany thence to Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany at 10:30 am where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit Thursday, April 23, 2015 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the funeral home.
