Natalie C. Platt

Loudonville-Natalie C. Platt (Szemplinska), 94, of Loudonville, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Szemplinski originally of Poland; Natalie was born in Albany in 1917. Natalie graduated from St. Casimir’s Grammar School in 1930 and St. Joseph’s Academy High School in 1934. She attended New York State Teachers’ College and was employed by the Works Progress Administration. In 1937 she married Edward A. Platt and that year founded North Shaker Farm Dairy on Wolf Road in Colonie. The business later became Platt’s Dairy in 1951 and eventually became a well known local restaurant, Platt’s Place, in 1970. Natalie was instrumental in the creation of Albany County Association of Retarded Citizens and was a lifelong member and supporter of that organization. She was also a founding member of the Colonie Women’s Business and Professional Association. Natalie was a communicant of St. Casimir’s and later St. Pius X Church. Natalie was a long time resident of Loudonville and, to her grandchildren’s delight, Ocean Ridge, Florida. The family would like to thank Loudonville Home for Adults, Memorial Hospital, Heritage House, Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, The Community Hospice of Albany County, and Dr. Mary Rappazzo. The Platt family wishes to acknowledge Natalie’s life long friend Ronnie Pettograsso and thank her for her devotion to Natalie throughout her life. Natalie is predeceased by her loving husband Edward A. Platt, her sister Helen Browne, and her daughter-in-law Jean C. Platt. Natalie is survived by her three sons: Peter E. Platt of Colonie, Jeffrey M. Platt (Sheila) of Loudonville and Ned Platt of Guilderland. Her grandchildren: Cynthia A. Platt (David Luntz), Slingerlands; Mark E. Platt, Malden, MA; Laura M. O’Brien (William), Brookline, MA; Amy J. Connolly (Paul), Waltham, MA; Julie C. Farlow (Thomas), Ithaca; Michael A. Platt (Maria), Guilderland; and Jillian M. Platt O’Malley, Wynantskill. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren; Emma, Andrew & Owen Luntz; Liam, Henry, Seamus & Jason O’Brien; Abigail & Douglas Connolly; and Gwendolyn & Adrienne O’Malley. She leaves behind her niece Christine Grant and her two nephews, Delbert and Martin Browne. Funeral services Wednesday October 5, 2011 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday, October 4, 2011 4:00 to 7:00 pm at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville. Interment at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
