Nancy N. Cassidy

ALBANY- Nancy N. Cassidy, 85, died at the Teresian House on November 24, 2015, after suffering from Alzheimer’s for a number of years. Born in Albany, June 29, 1930, daughter of the late Theodora and Richard Neville. She was a graduate of the former Vincentian Institute High School and Mildred Elley. Nancy worked for the Betty Campbell Modeling Agency based in Albany and later was recruited as a Powers model in New York City. She married the love of her life, Dr. James J. Cassidy, her “Cass,” in August of 1953 and dedicated her life to creating a beautiful home and life for him and their five children. Nancy was an avid reader, a marvelous writer of warm and insightful letters, a fantastic cook, and an artistic seamstress. She loved music and dance, theater, bridge and golf. A loving mother, Nancy wanted to be remembered, not for her many talents, but for her love of her family. She and Jim retired in Pinehurst, North Carolina, where Nancy enjoyed golfing with the Silver Foils. She also loved volunteering for the Literacy Program at Pinehurst Elementary. She took great joy in her time with the children at this school. A compassionate and generous spirit, Nancy was quick to help all in need, especially elderly relatives, whom she comforted and cared for with a gentle and loving heart. Most of all, a devout Roman Catholic, Nancy was a loyal and generous parishioner of both St. Mary’s in Albany, NY, and Sacred Heart Church in Pinehurst, NC, where she was dedicated to the Perpetual Adoration Society. She was the loving mother of Brian Cassidy (Kathleen), Rea Cassidy, Moira Cassidy, Brendan Cassidy, and Martha Cassidy Kerr (Jeremy) and their late infant daughter, Nora Cassidy (1955); Nancy is the sister of the late Richard Neville (Jane), the late Eugenie Barrett (Joseph), the late Donald Neville (Corinne, the late Rosemary). Also survived by 13 grandchildren: Caitlin Ramalho (Jairo), Meaghan Benson (Eric), Ryan Cassidy, Colleen Cassidy, Kevin Cassidy, Kieran Cassidy, Devin Cassidy, Darcy Cassidy, Logan Kerr, Braeden Kerr, Seamus Killeen, Liam Killeen, and Aidan Killeen; two great-grandchildren: Ava and Sarah; and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 am, at the Historic Church of St. Mary, Albany, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. All are invited to attend and may call at the McVeigh Funeral Home, Monday from 4-7 pm.
