Mary "Sue" Kircher

Watervliet-Mary “Sue” Sniffen Hartigan Kircher, 95, passed away peacefully Friday, November 8, 2013 in the hospice at Memorial Hospital surrounded by members of her family and Rev. Geoffrey Burke. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Sarah Diviney Hartigan. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years Harvey Burton Kircher, Jr., whom she wed in 1935; and daughters Carol Ann Dittmer and Catherine Mary Kircher; her brothers and sisters John, Catherine “Beauty”, Charles “Brud”, Sarah “Lammie”, Edward “Buzzy”, Robert ‘Babe” and twins Mary and Joseph. She is survived by her beloved daughters Dawn Marie Frankenbeck, Mary Christine Hanley (John) and son Harvey Henry Kircher (Amy); also survived by 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mary worked as a waitress most of her life, primarily at the Fort Orange Club in Albany where she met and served the late Governor Nelson Rockefeller and the late Mayor Erastus Corning. She also waitressed at the Colonie, Albany and Shaker Ridge Country Clubs and other private clubs in the area. As a lifelong volunteer, Mary received the Albany County Senior Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. She was a woman of great faith and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. The family would like to thank all her friends at Carondelet Commons Senior Apts., her home for the last 23 years; and most especially her best friend and neighbor Betty Palmer. They would also like to thank the staff at Riverside Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Albany Memorial Hospital, Cardon Outreach and The Community Hospice of Rensselaer. Funeral services Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 10:00 am from McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday, November 12, 2013 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Interment Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
