Mary D. Ryan

Albany-Mary D. Ryan surrounded by her children, their spouses and grandchildren died peacefully in her home on Friday, August 26, 2022. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Donato and Anna Marie DeBonis. Mary graduated from Catholic Central High School and thereafter earned degrees in Biology and Chemistry from The College of St. Rose. After her youngest child entered school Mary returned to Albany Medical Center where she continued her employment in the Hematology Lab until her retirement. Mom and her family were longtime communicants of the former St. Teresa of Avila Church in Albany, New York, where she was a member of the Rosary Society, nursing home visitation ministry, gardening ministry, and food pantry ministry until the tender age of 90. She also enjoyed volunteering in the lunch program at St. Teresa of Avila Grammar School. She continued with these ministries after becoming a parishioner of Mater Christi. Mom was a woman of certain unyielding principles: a life of profound faith, love of family and that any job – no matter how small – had to be completed well and correctly. Mom enjoyed reading, golf, Saratoga Race Track with her handicapping husband, travelling – especially her annual OBX vacations and cheerleader to her family’s road races and sporting events. Mom was the beloved wife of the late William F. Ryan; cherished mother of William F. Ryan Jr. (Betsy), Ann Marie Maxwell (Dan), Mary A. Francese (Neil), Kathleen Conway (Jason) and Denise M. Mormino (Anthony); beloved grandmother of Grace Ryan, Wil Ryan, Jayne Callahan (Michael), Lauren Maxwell (Thomas McCormick), Ryan Maxwell, Maggie Francese (Michael Borini), and Anthony William Mormino; sister of the late Michael P. DeBonis, Dominic DeBonis, and Daniel DeBonis; and is survived by several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mom’s family Monday, August 29, 2022 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot only. Funeral services celebrating a life well lived shall be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 9:30 am at the Parish of Mater Christi, Albany, New York. The Rite of Committal will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, New York.
