Marilyn L. Candlish

Eash Schodack, NY-Marilyn L. Candlish died at St. Peter's Hospice Inn on February 28, 2025 following a brief illness. Born in Albany on July 1, 1928, she was 96 years old. She was married to Martin N. Candlish for 56 years when he died in 2004. She is survived by their children Ronald N. (Patricia) Candlish, Rebecca A. (James) Baldwin, Jeanne C. Cooper and Martin W. (Ellen) Candlish. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren: Matthew (Molly) Baldwin, Kristen (David) Phillips, Lauryn (Michael) Bastian, Shannon (Thomas) Milne, Jeffrey (Melissa) Cooper, Jonathan Cooper, Kate (Adam) Benoit, Jason Candlish, April Rogers, and Mae Candlish as well as 17 great grandchildren. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents Frederick and Rita Horton Ludlum, her brother Graham Ludlum, and sister Jacqueline Odabashian. Marilyn was a lifelong resident of the area, growing up in Albany and then living in East Schodack for nearly 70 years until her passing. She was employed by the East Greenbush School District and Questar III (formerly RCG BOCES), prior to her retirement. For a number of years following, she was a volunteer at Doors of Hope in Sand Lake. Marilyn was a loving and nurturing mother, grandmother and great grandmother who took great joy in times spent with her family and friends. Always reflective, and thoughtful, she was a soft spoken, kind and gentle person who loved to read, work in her garden, and listen to music. She appreciated beauty and simplicity, the tranquility of her back yard and the wonders of the various birds and other wildlife that would visit. She enjoyed numerous vacations as well as winters in Florida with her husband Martin. Over many years, Marilyn was the center of many family vacations, Sunday dinners, birthday and anniversary celebrations. She was grateful for a long life in which she met challenges with characteristic grit and determination. She embraced the world around her with the joy of an open heart and loving nature. Friends and relatives may visit with Marilyn's family at the McVeigh Funeral Home on Friday March 7, 2025 from 11:00am - 12:30pm. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. A brief memorial celebration of her life will follow at 12:30 pm. Inurnment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, East Schodack at a later date.
