Marcia A. Ashley

Albany-Marcia Ashley age 90, went to be with Jesus and her heavenly family on January 21, 2014. She was born in Albany to Harry and Mary Carr Perkins . Marcia was the beloved wife of the late Sinclair (Bud) Ashley who was the love of her life. She was also predeceased by her sister, Ann Callahan and brother Harold Perkins. Marcia was a graduate of Vincentian High School where she was elected president of her junior and senior class. After high school, Mrs. Ashley worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. for many years until she married and became a homemaker and mother to her two girls. Marcia loved being active in school and church activities. She was a communicate of St. Francis De Sales parish in Colonie where she taught religion and faith in God to children and families for 30 years. In addition to teaching, Marcia had a great love of music and sang in the church choir and Festival of Praise choir for many years. Marcia will be remembered for being a kind and compassionate person who was always friendly to everyone she met. She loved and cherished her family and home in Colonie where she lived for most of her life until going into the Teresian House in 2005. Mrs. Ashley is survived by her loving daughters, Ann Walters and husband Brian of East Greenbush, and Jeanne Desjardins and husband Bill of Latham, her four grandchildren Joel, Jordan and Tyler Desjardins and Abby Walters. She is also survived by her sister in law Gerry Karlik of Massachusetts as well as several nieces and nephews. Our family would like to express our eternal gratitude to the Teresian House for the care she has received from her very special caregivers and nursing staff on 5A. They gave our mom love, kindness, patience, and respect and were considered part of our family. We will forever have the utmost respect and admiration for the hard work they do caring for our loved ones at the weakest time in their life. We would also like to show our deepest admiration for the Carmelite sisters especially Sister Joan who was a constant spiritual support for our family. Funeral services Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 10:15 am from McVeighFuneral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany thence to the Infant of Prague Chapel at Teresian House at 11:00 am where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday, January 24, 2014 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Interment St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
