Louis J. Rossi

Albany- Louis J. Rossi, 88, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at St. Peter’s Hospital with his beloved family at his bedside. Born in Rossiter, PA, he moved to Albany when he was five years old. He was the son of the late James and Theresa Yanni Rossi. Mr. Rossi graduated from Cathedral Academy, and attended Russell Sage College. He was a US Coast Guard WW II veteran, assigned to the Naval Amphibious Forces aboard the USS Bayfield PA-33. He participated in the invasion of Normandy and Southern France in the European Theatre, and Iwo Jima and Okinawa in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Rossi was a longtime State employee, retiring in 1984 as Assistant Director of the New York State Treasury. He was an avid golfer and attained three holes-in-one. Mr. Rossi was a longtime member of Pinehaven Country Club, and was a founding member of the State Income Tax Golf League and the Pinehaven R.O.B.S. He formerly served on the board of directors at Pinehaven Country Club, and in SEFCU as secretary/treasurer. He was a member of the North Albany American Legion Post 1610, the Tax Alumni Club, the Italian American Community Center, and All Saints Catholic Church Seniors. He was the dear husband of Gloria Ray Rossi; beloved father of Deborah A. Makowski (Paul), Lisa A. Hearley (William), and William J. Rossi (Lisa); cherished grandfather of Ryan Donnelly (Sandy), Erin Hearley, Justin Hearley, Andrew Rossi, Kristopher Makowski, and Maranda Rossi; great grandfather of Abigail Donnelly; brother of Isabel Rossi and the late William A. Rossi (killed in the Battle of the Bulge) and Lawrence (Larry) Rossi. Funeral services Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 8:45 am from the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany thence to All Saints Catholic Church at 9:30 am where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
