Loretta T. Murray

Albany – Loretta (Loret)Teresa Murray, daughter of George and Loretta Vorwick, and sister of the late Florence Vorwick Morrissey born February 14, 1922 in Albany, graduate of the Academy of the Holy Names and Mildred Elly Business School died Sunday, May 28th , 2017. Her short hand skills were kept sharp at the New York State Department of Health, Education and Commerce, where she worked for several years. She married John L Murray in 1949 and is the mother of Joan Murray and Nancy Murray Siedlecki (Jack), grandmother of Kelly Link Cerza (Derek), Katey Link Brown (Anthony), Kimberly Link Maiello (Christopher), Kristin Link Keneally (Marc), Kevin Siedlecki (Clare), Jaclyn Siedlecki Murphy (Christopher), Amy Siedlecki, and great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Hayley and Greta Cerza, Sullivan and Emmett Brown, Vanessa, Giovanni and James Maiello, Rita and Oscar Keneally, and Haley Murphy. Loret excelled at piano, (you hummed it, she played it); and was at the piano for all family sing a-longs. She has been a parishioner at Mater Christi, (the former St Catherine of Siena) since 1958, where she sang in the choir for several years. She achieved the School of Music Certificate from the Academy of the Holy Names. Loret was an enthusiastic athlete. She enjoyed ice-skating (racers) at Washington Park Lake, swimming at Burden Lake and Marion Lodge, golfing at Capital Hills, Tall Timbers, and Western Turnpike, skiing in the Adirondacks and Vermont, and shelling on Englewood, FL beaches. She enjoyed tending the vegetable and flower gardens at home and was an excellent seamstress. She sewed several prom dresses, Halloween costumes, and a Christening Gown which has been become a family heirloom. In lieu of flowers, donations to Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, 12205 or the parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell Street, Albany, NY, 12208 would be appreciated. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with Loret’s family on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the Parish of Mater Christi Church, 40 Hopewell Street Albany, to be immediately followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. The Rite of Interment will follow the Mass at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
