Keith Van Loon Flood

COLONIE- Keith Van Loon Flood, 68, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Walter Raymond and Marion Forrest Van Loon Flood. He began his education at Albany Public School 16, graduated from CBA class of 1961, attended Albany Junior College and graduated from Albany Business College. He worked as a district sales manager for Lincoln Electric Co. for 42 years, retiring in 2005. He was a longtime treasurer and life member of the Northeast section of the American Welding Society. He coached and managed his sons Colonie Little League teams and was their Scout Master for Schenectady County Council Troop #47. Always a "Brother's Boy," Keith remained involved and dedicated to CBA working telethons, attending basketball and football games , a member of the Alumni Association and Parent's Association and giving his time and talents wherever they were needed. Upon retirement, Keith enjoyed lunches with his friends from his Army Reserve unit Company A, 413QM Battalion, golfing with his sons and grandson, weekly pinochle games at Atlantic States Kitchens with Keith and Pas and spending time with his wife at Historical Society events. Many weekends were spent at tailgate parties at West Point hosting many appreciative cadets. Early vacations found the family in Ocean Grove, NJ every summer. Later trips to Old Orchard Beach, Maine and weeks in Northern Ireland left cherished memories Keith will forever be remembered and cherished for his character , class and sense of humor. Above all he loved his family and especially his "lady" with whom he recently celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife, Sharon McGivern Flood; father of Keith Owen and Kevin Sean (Shelly) Flood and the late beloved Robert Scott Flood; brother of Jean Flood Cowan (late Jack) and the late Raymond E. and Milton L Flood; grandfather of Kayla and Marissa Matteo and Rachel and Robert Flood; brother-in-law of Margaret and Beatrice Flood. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the 5th floor nurses at Albany Memorial Hospital and the staff of Community Hospice Inn at St Peter's Hospital for their care and compassion. Funeral services Thursday from the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 N. Allen St., Albany at 9:45 AM thence to St. Clare's Church, 1947 Central Ave., Colonie where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am by the Rev. William Pape. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8 pm. Interment will follow the Mass at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Castleton.
