Josephine "Josie" Sgambelluri Galka

Albany - Josephine A. (Sgambelluri) Galka, age 86, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 28, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family after a brief illness. Born in Albany on May 25, 1938, to the late Girolamo and Mary (Fragomeni) Sgambelluri. Josephine graduated from St. John’s High School, class of 1956. After graduating high school, she worked for the New York Telephone Company. Josephine left the work force in 1965 to become a home maker and raise her family. In 1978 when her youngest son started school, she returned to the workforce working for the Federal Government, Department of Defense at the old Scotia Navy depot, retiring in 2004. She was a communicant of the Blessed Sacrament Church. She held many roles in life, but her most cherished role was being a Nana. Beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Galka, Sr. Loving mother to Joseph A. Galka Jr., Matthew Galka and his wife Kathleen, Christopher Galka, Stephanie Coleman and the late Michael Galka. Cherished grandmother of Justin (Niki), Michael, Raymond Galka and Catherine (Jared) Joyce. Great-Grandmother of Gabe, Haisley, Rilyn, Grayson, Jasper and Jayden. Sister of Francis Knapp, Jerry Sgambelluri and his wife Sally, Ann Minor-Roberts and the late James Multori, Rose Diotte and Amelia Muia. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would thank the Albany Fire Department, The SPH Emergency Room Department, Cardiac Care Unit and most importantly the Hospice Inn for their care and compassion given to their mother during her stay. Funeral Services Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 9:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Ave. ( Father John Bradley Way), Albany, NY 12206 where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie, Ny immediately following the Mass.
