John R. Morlock

Albany, NY. John R. Morlock, 88, passed away peacefully at home with family on September 17, 2024. Born in Richmond Hill, NY on December 9, 1935, John is the son of Catherine (Kay) and Robert Morlock. The family moved to Albany in 1942 settling in the Pine Hills area where John resided for the next 80 years. He attended Vincentian Institute High School and graduated class of 1953. Immediately following high school, John joined the Navy and began a 30-year military career, first aboard the USS Ajax as an optical specialist and then in the Army National Guard for 25 years as a pilot, flying fixed wing planes and helicopters, and receiving The Robert L. Tillman Aviator of the Year award in 1980. He retired in 1983 as a captain. During this time, John married Christina Lange, and they had three children. He was employed at BASF (formerly GAF) as a Sr. Technical Development Specialist in dyes and colorants and retired after 40 years of service. John was a proud life member of the Albany Elks Lodge #49, where he was voted Elk of the year in 1999, and well known for his annual Pig Roasts and world-class clam chowder. He was also a self-taught banjo player performing with the Tri-County Banjo Band at events and venues throughout the Capital District. John is survived by his former wife Christina, their three children and spouses Richard (Lisa), Christina (Frank), and Joseph (Honor) as well as 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. His Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 pm. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only.
