Joan A. Tooher

Guilderland, NY-Joan Alvenia (Callahan) Tooher, 88, passed away on June 2, 2023 with her loving daughters by her side. She was born on September 28, 1934 to the late Charles F. Callahan and Bertha M. Gass Callahan. She was a graduate of the Milne School and the Russell Sage College School of Nursing. Joan was a registered nurse working at Albany Medical Center Hospital, St. Peter’s Hospital, and retired from Barnwell Nursing Home as Instructor of Staff Development. Joan was a lover of all animals and always enjoyed spending time with her dogs and cats over her many years, most recently with her dog Lily. She enjoyed boating on Lake George with her husband Jack, family and friends and her dogs Skipper and Holly for many years. She was a kind and loving mother who always enjoyed spending time with her daughters, their families and always up for a good time. Survivors include her daughters who will miss her very much, Julia M. Tooher of Harwich, MA, Jacqueline L. Cole (Stephen) of Valatie, NY, Joan P. Tooher-Holsapple (Kyle) of Valatie, NY, Kelly Ann J. Schultz (Jonathan) of Furlong, PA, grandchildren Sean and Brendan Pursel, Natalie and Amelia DeJarnette, Charles (Chip), Laura and Anna White, and Callahan, Caroline and Claire Schultz, and her dear cousin Anne Landry. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 61 years John E. Tooher, Jr and her granddaughter Shannon Marie White. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Joan’s family Tuesday, June 6, 2023 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Funeral services Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 10:00 am at Christ the King Church, Guilderland, NY where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The parish family of Christ the King Church will gather at 4:30 pm Tuesday in the funeral home for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome. Interment will be held at Mountainview Cemetery, Castleton, NY.
