Jean C. Platt

Colonie- Jean C. Platt (Ferraro), 70, of Colonie, passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2010, surrounded by her husband and five children. Born in Albany, Jean was the daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor Ferraro. Jean attended the Cathedral Academy and was a proud 1960 graduate of St. Peter’s School of Nursing. Upon graduation, Jean worked as a Registered Nurse at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital. After raising her family, Jean returned to nursing first for the South Colonie School District and then 17 years as Nurse Manager at the Albany County Nursing Home (Shaker Place) until her retirement in 2002. For the past several years, Jean volunteered her nursing skills at the Poverello Center, a clinic for the medically under-served in Albany. Jean’s career gave expression to her lifelong dedication to care giving, and her commitment to place the needs of others before her own. Kindness and sacrifice came naturally to Jean, and she always made time to help others. Jean was quick to tend to a sick loved one, help a neighbor in need, and do anything for her family and friends. A longtime resident of Colonie, Jean was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church until its recent closure. She was a member of the Colonie Historical Society. In an effort to preserve and share the collective history of the area, she and her husband along with Richard Naylor of the Colonie Town Library co-authored “Wolf Road, A Century of Development”. Following her retirement, Jean enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa. In recent years, she also enjoyed family trips to Block Island, RI, and spending time with her grandchildren who will truly miss her guidance and compassion. The family would like to offer a special heartfelt thank you to Dr. Mary Rappazzo for her nurturing care, advice and friendship. Jean is survived by her husband of 47 years, Peter E. Platt; and their five children, Cynthia A. Platt (David T. Luntz), Slingerlands, Mark E. Platt, Malden, MA, Laura M. O’Brien (William), Brookline, MA, Amy J. Connolly (Paul), Waltham, MA, and Julie C. Farlow (Thomas), Ithaca. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Emma, Andrew, and Owen Luntz, Liam, Henry, Seamus, and Jason O’Brien, and Abigail and Douglas Connolly. She is also survived by sisters Joan Purcell, Colonie, Eleanor Ferraro, Schenectady, and brothers Joseph Ferraro (Nadine), Honolulu, HI, John Ferraro (Celia), Half Moon, and 11 nieces and nephews. Funeral services Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 10:00 am at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, Loudonville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday, June 18, 2010 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Christ Our Light Catholic Church. Interment Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Those wishing to remember Jean C.
