James N. Woodside

Schenectady-James N. Woodside, 85, died peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home in Schenectady. Jim was the son of Mary M. Woodside (Kane) and James A. Woodside and was born on June 3, 1939 in Concord, Massachusetts. Jim was a graduate of Newton High School, Bentley College, and a veteran of the United States Army. He was a long serving member of the board of directors at Billerica Access Television in Billerica, Massachusetts. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Janice A. Woodside (Shattuck). He is also survived by his daughter Heather R. Woodside, daughter-in-law Elaine L. Broiles, and granddaughter Mabel Rose Broiles-Woodside. He loved spending time with family and friends, working in his garden, and chocolate chip cookies. His cousin Paul owned a small sailboat, and Jim took every opportunity to help race Paul’s boat in Boston Harbor. Jim was a lifelong Catholic and served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Andrews parish in North Billerica Massachusetts. He and Jan also taught many couples about communication during their time as Pre-Cana instructors. A longtime resident of Massachusetts, he was an avid fan of Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox. He moved into Yankee territory only recently in anticipation of the birth of his beloved granddaughter, Mabel. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Kingsway Arms Nursing Home for the wonderful care and comfort they provided over the last few months. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jim’s family Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206 from 9:00 am to 10: 00 am. Jim’s Funeral Service will follow at 10:00 am in the funeral home. The Rite of Committal will be held in Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with full military honors at 12:30 pm. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
